Kasco's Original Logo

Nearly 50 years ago, Kasco Marine was founded by Bill and Bert Skluzacek in their home’s garage. As the owner of Windmill Marina, Bill was looking for a way to keep boats and docks in the water safely throughout the cold, Minnesota winters. His solution was a suspended motor unit that pushed warmer bottom water up creating an ice-free opening at the waters’s surface.

Kasco Saves The Whales

February 17, 1988

In 1988, Kasco heard news of 3 whales trapped beneath ice in Barrow, AK. Knowing of our units abilities to keep cold water ice-free, two of Kasco’s employees made the trip to Alaska to see if they could help. Our de-icers were able to keep areas of water open long enough for the whales to make it to open water.
