Q: How long does it take to open a hunting hole in approximately 2 – 3 inches of ice?
A: There are many variables you would have to consider here. Depth and temperature will affect the length of time. In common instances, the safe bet would be to use our 12v De-Icer for approximately 3 hours. Drilling holes could also help speed-up this process.
Q: Do the power cords for your units have any kind of rodent deterrent on them?
A: There is no actual deterrent coating on our power cords. Some people will bury the cord if they have concerns of rodent or pest damage.
Q: How do I know if my Muck Puck/Block is performing properly?
A: In some water quality situations, the skeleton that holds the bacteria in place does not dissolve. A simple weighing will determine if the product is doing its job. It should weigh three pounds or less after one month in the water after it has dried.
Q: Can I buy directly from Kasco Marine, Inc.?
A: No. Kasco Marine, Inc. does not sell direct. Kasco sells through a network of knowledgeable and helpful distributors located throughout the world. All Kasco equipment can ship by UPS and can be drop shipped directly to you. Please contact Kasco for a distributor near you.
Q: Are Kasco Products safe?
A: Yes. Most Kasco products are tested by ETL to meet stringent UL and CSA standards for underwater use. All Fountain models include a control box that contains GFCI or GFCB protection. Kasco always recommends using a control box with every unit, or plugging units into GFI outlets for protection. NO ONE SHOULD EVER ENTER WATER WITH A DE-ICER, FLOATING FOUNTAIN, AERATOR, AND/OR CIRCULATOR/MIXER OPERATING.
Q: Are Kasco products tested before being shipped out?
A: Yes. Each and every Kasco product is individually tested to ensure proper operation before being sent to you including Hipot Voltage Testing to ensure there is no grounding problems with the unit or cord.
Q: Are Kasco Products repairable even when out of warranty?
A: Yes. Quite often Kasco products can be repaired more economically than purchasing a new unit. You can contact Kasco to find out if your unit is repairable. Occasionally, units may be more expensive to fix than replace, but Kasco will inform you of the costs before the repair is made and leave the decision up to you.
Q: Can I run my Kasco unit 24 hours per day, 365 days a year?
A: Yes and No. All Kasco products are designed for continuous-duty or on-demand use and can be run 24 hours per day. If you experience ice over your pond during the winter months, Kasco Floating Fountains and Pond Aerators should be removed and stored in a garage or basement during the winter. Keeping the units in during the winter will super-cool the water by exposing it to the air more than normal and make the ice thicker. Ice can damage the float and/or unit if ice makes its way to the unit. Kasco Water Circulators can be run all year long in any climate since they do not splash the water and will actually keep an area of the pond or lake ice free.
