Known throughout the world for their quality, durability and effectiveness, the Kasco D-Series de-icer became a staple of the industry by tackling some fiercely challenging applications; none more well known than the outstanding performance to save trapped whales in Barrow, Alaska that inspired the major motion picture, “Big Miracle.” Today, units are installed around the world and continue to provide the best performance in ice prevention and property protection.
By moving large volumes of warm, bottom water to the surface, Kasco de-icers eliminate and prevent ice formation around boats, docks, pilings, bulk heads, or any other property you need protected from damaging ice formation. Kasco’s unique design provides superior flow and excellent energy efficiency to solve your de-icing needs in a cost effective manner.
De-Icers are available in ½, ¾, and 1HP sizes and available in 120V (60 Hz), 240V (60 Hz), or 220V (50 Hz) power configurations to fit a variety of installations and applications. Each de-icer includes two 20 ft. (6m) suspension ropes for suspension installation.
Optional mounting systems include the Universal Dock Mount and Industrial Dock Mount. Thermostat and timer controllers are also available to help you save power and improve your de-icer’s performance.
Protect your De-icer power cord by adding a flex sleeve cord protector.
Kasco de-icers come complete for suspended operation either a vertical or angled position. Adjust the angle of suspension by looping one suspension rope back one or two bars on the propeller cage.
Universal Dock Mount
The universal dock mount utilizes durable, composite mounting hardware accompanied by a corrosion-resistant stainless steel pipe (pipe is customer supplied) making it a great choice for docks, piers, marinas and other waterfront property.
Industrial Dock Mount
Kasco’s industrial dock mount is made from corrosion-resistant stainless steel mounting hardware accompanied by a stainless steel pipe (pipe is customer supplied). This allows it to withstand the demanding environments of industrial or harsh applications.
The table below will help you decide which de-icer unit will work best for you. Choose which temperature best describes your application and which mounting orientation you will use. Based on those decisions, you will then see how much water will be kept open with each unit size.
Sizes may vary greatly based on a number of local conditions. The above sizing guidelines are made with the following assumptions:
- Unobstructed water
- 200 or more acre body of water with 20 ft. (6 m.) or greater max depth
- Water depth in de-icing area: 4 ft. (1.2 m.) or more

“I recommend Kasco De-Icers for two reasons. First, my F2400D, 1/2hp unit. I’ve used it through four winters to keep ice out from under my 50’x50′ wet boathouse on a lake in Northern Wisconsin and it works! Second, because I have received prompt and good advice about the placement of the unit from email available on the Contact Us portion of the website. I wrote email questions on two occasions and received answers in each case in less than one hour. The advice on placement and depth proved to be very effective.” – Jerry, Minocqua, Wisconsin
“We have a 170 slip marina on the St. Croix River and use 14 Kasco Circulator units in the summer months for water quality purposes. They are used with floats, dock mounts, and suspended by ropes depending on the location and circulation requirement. We also use more in the winter for de-icing purposes. As far as the summer months are concerned, they are effective at cleaning up the water, put debris in areas that it can easily be picked up, and assist in weed and algae control. I am surprised that all marinas do not use this type of approach. We have been doing this for 15 years and customers ask for them because they know they work.” – Joe Riley, General Manager, Afton, MN
“To protect our boathouse’s completely renovated foundation, we purchased two 2400D, De-Icers, with dock mounts in December 2009. Both units were installed, but only one was turned on. The results were way beyond what we expected.” – John, Mont-Tremblant Lake, Canada
