De-icer Thrust – What Does it Mean?

Deciding on equipment to solve a specific problem that has a wide array of variables can be tough. De-icing has a multitude of factors that combine to determine the effectiveness of a de-icing product.

Things like size of body of water, depth of water, geographic location, air temp, obstructions in the water, etc. will all greatly affect the amount of open water maintained. Knowing all that, how do you pick a product that’s right for you?

First, you should determine your de-icing goal. Typically, the goal is protecting the property, shoreline, dock, etc. from ice damage. Then you need to decide what product provides the best results. Without looking at any of the other features and benefits of products, thrust is the #1 measurement to compare and contrast different de-icing products.

If you don’t know what thrust means as far as a de-icer is concerned, you are not alone.

What is Thrust?

Thrust will directly compare different products and usually correlates to the amount of water that will be open. Simply put, more thrust means more water movement and more water movement typically means more open water.

Kasco De-icers lead the category of thrust. Our units are designed to produce THE MOST thrust of any product on the market. We do this with custom motors and propellors that have been designed and tested to produce the most thrust, which ends up producing the most open water.

To see how Kasco stacks up against the competition, we performed a complete, side-by-side thrust comparison of all our major competitors. We wanted to see how other
brands and cheaper alternatives perform. Is a cheaper price really worth it?

The Results?

As good as expected. Kasco units outperformed all other brands on a per HP basis and our smaller units even outperformed most competitors’ larger HP.

So what does this all mean for you, the de-icer consumer?  More thrust means more flow and more open water. Therefore, more thrust means you will likely have more open water and require fewer and/or smaller de-icers to clear the same area. Needing smaller or fewer units to produce similar results will not only save you money on the purchase price, but also on the electrical consumption per day or per month.

This testing made it abundantly clear that Kasco De-icers:

  1. Produce the most thrust per HP
  2. Deliver the most thrust per amp (or watt) of power used
  3. Offer the lowest cost per lbs. of thrust (purchase price of the unit)

This means you can be confident choosing Kasco De-icers, knowing our units will provide the most results for your dollar and the peace of mind you need during the cold winter months.
