Following these maintenance recommendations and procedures will help ensure many years of safe and reliable performance from your Kasco equipment.

Always include a Ground Fault Circuit Interruptor on your power source.
Kasco fountain controllers incorporate Ground Fault Circuit Interruption (GFCI) technology for safety; this feature can also alert you to electrical leaks in the equipment. If you have repeat, consistent trips on a GFCI protected circuit you should disconnect the equipment, remove it from the water and inspect the power cord for damage. Observe your operating equipment on a regular basis (daily, if possible) for any changes in performance.
If a change in performance is observed, the equipment should be disconnected from power and inspected for any material that may have clogged the system or wrapped around the shaft of the motor, especially plastic bags and fishing line. Even though Kasco equipment is some of the most clog-resistant on the market, it is impossible to protect against all items that can cause clogs. Entangled and blocking materials can be very damaging to the equipment and should be removed as soon as possible.

In regions where there is significant freezing in the wintertime do not allow surface installed equipment to become iced in.
Although some operating Kasco equipment will keep some amount of ice open through the winter, some equipment that is not specifically designed to prevent ice build-up may become frozen in ice resulting in damage to the equipment. If your equipment seems susceptible to ice damage consider removing the equipment from the water or altering it’s installation to better combat ice build-up. Please call us for recommendations.  Removed units should be stored upside down in a protected location above freezing temperatures.

Equipment should be removed from the water at least once per year (at the end of the season in cold climates) to clean the exterior of the system, especially the stainless steel motor housing (can).
The motor housing surface dissipates heat into the water; any buildup of organic growth or other material on this surface will block heat transfer and potentially cause damage or shorten the life of the unit. In warmer regions it is recommended to remove and clean the motor at least two to three times per year depending on conditions. In most cases a power washer will sufficiently clean the unit, particularly if done while the unit is still wet.

The motors on Kasco equipment are sealed assemblies; the seals are subject to wear over time.
Replacement of the seals and a change of oil every three years will help add longevity to the motor and potentially reduce costlier repairs later.

A zinc anode is supplied on the shaft of all Kasco equipment for protection from corrosion due to electrolysis.
The zinc anode should be inspected regularly and replaced if reduced to half of its original size or if white in color. Corrosion from electrolysis is more commonly associated with saltwater or brackish water, but as a matter of precaution it is important to periodically check the zinc anode in all installations (at least every two to three months).

Seal replacement and all other repair services should be performed by Kasco trained authorized repair facilities. Any alterations or changes made to our units by an unauthorized source will void the warranty. This includes tampering with the unit, power cord or control box.
