Fallstudie av grundvatten

Location: Private Industrial Site

Application: Groundwater Treatment

Details: Relatively Low Levels of Volatile Organic Compounds

Overview:

Analytic sampling during 2016 indicated the presence of the following analytes in extracted groundwater at the following approximate concentration ranges:

  • Dichlorodifluoromethane ranged from 2.5 – 2.9-µg/L (micrograms/liter)
  • 1,1-Dichloroethane ranged from 1.0 – 1.5-µg/L.
  • Cis-1,2-Dichloroethene ranged from 3.0 – 3.4-µg/L.
  • Ethylbenzene ranged from 0.8 – 1.1-µg/L.
  • Tetrachloroethene ranged from 7.0 -7.5-µg/L.
  • Trichloroethene ranged from 2.5 – 2.7-µg/L.
  • Trichlorofluoromethane ranged from 0.70 – 0.77-µg/L.
  • Total Xylenes ranged from 8.5 – 9-µg/L.

Subsequently, the extracted groundwater was placed in four 10,000 gallon tanks for remediation using the aeration method.

Solutions:

Kasco Marine has prided itself on creating highly effective, durable “Bottom-Diffusers” that are easy to install and versatile within a wide range of applications; from standard to unique. These diffusers create micro-bubbles that are considerably more efficient than surface aerators in oxygenating water.

In the above groundwater application, our customer theorized that the “Bottom-Diffusers” could be more effective (in comparison to surface aerators) in oxygenating the extracted groundwater, thereby removing the VOC’s that were found present. For this application, the customer used the Kasco RA4 Kits, containing:

  • Four 240V Bottom Diffusers – One diffuser was placed in each of four tanks.
  • Two ½-HP Kasco Compressors – Each compressor served two diffusers.
  • 100-feet of tubing from each diffuser to its designated compressor.

Results:

Sampled again approximately two weeks from the initial sampling and after undergoing aeration treatment, the units had reduced the VOC’s to a non-detectable (ND) levels.

Impact:

With VOC’s removed, the groundwater was then able to be used in a percolation basin for groundwater re-charge.

Kasco Diffused Aeration is affordable, and from a mechanical aspect, very user-friendly. These systems are designed to aerate large ponds with the intent of maintaining a desired level of dissolved oxygen for the purposes of sustaining aquatic life, mixing pond water, and also de-icing purposes. In larger pond applications, a second diffuser may be used to achieve the desired results faster.
